  Subject: Viking Reservation in Sweden.

      Hi All,

I am planning on spending the summer of 1999 at a Viking Reservation in
Sweden called Foteviken. I will fly over in late May and fly back in
  early September.

  Here is their map.

link Here is a home page for them.
link Please feel free to come visit me there. 9 Date: Thu Feb 18, 1999 8:22pm Subject: All vikings are welcome to participate and live here with the resident vikings. This is where I will be the summer of 1999.
link Go viking! In the viking reserve people live as vikings the entire summer. In the reserve new houses and enclosures are constantly being built. Grains are sown and harvested. Animals are cared for - the hens are fed and the sheep are tended to. The craftsmen are busy at work. The summers activities The entire summer we are in full action, from the end of May to the beginning of September. On Mondays everybody can join in or watch when the animals are fed and the sheep are tended to. On Tuesdays we bake and prepare food in the South gothic house. On Thursdays we smoke fish and meat in the smokehouse. (check our summer program, which is coming soon) Every week has a theme program. "Slaget vid foteviken" the 12-14 June is the big weekend at Foteviken, in the south of Sweden. All vikings are welcome to participate and live here with the resident vikings.
link Fotevikens museum is situated on a height over-looking the coast near the entrance to Höllviken, in the south of Sweden. To the west you will find the ruins of the Castle of Skanör and to the north the Fotevik barrier from the Viking age. This is most likely the spot where King Neils was defeated in 1134. Fotevikens Museum is situated at Höllviken, approx. 20 km south of Malmö. FSotcher(at)aol.com wrote: We will be in Oslo about the 17th or 18th of June, then an overnight trip to Copenhagen to see two friends. From there it is a short hop across to Sweden where we will rent a car. I look forward to your visit. By then most of the resident Viking should know me by name. Just ask anyone. Will you please give me some details about the Viking camp? I made a copy of some of their web site. They tell me they had 30,000 visitors the second summer they were open. This summer will be year four I think. Where exactly is it located? Near the small city of Höllviken. What are the activities? See above. I think they also have a Viking ship. If so, I will try to be a member of the crew. Is it a tourist site? Yes. It will cost you each 30 kr to get in. Do you know what your role will be? No. I suspect we will talk about it when I get there. I will have along my Viking watch.
link That should be fun. Do you have any idea where one stays nearby? Motels. Hotels. I would guess. More of what I might be doing there. Pete
link Vikingage ship building At Fotevikens museum the maritime archaeology is of vital importance, model and reconstructions of wrecks are included as a natural part of the reservations environment and at the same time an interesting component which will seperate fishing, shipping and trade. At the moment research is being carried out on a few ship wrecks. The Foteviks wreck dates from the year 1040, one of the five wrecks raised up from the barrier in 1982. The Knösen wreck, excavated in 1991-92, is approximately 18 m long and dendrologically dated to 1134. New construction of the Falsterbo ship, flotsam found in 1932, is today in Falsterbos museum and is dated to around 1100. Laupouri from Finland dated year 980, excavated and reconstructed by archaeologist Harry Alopeaus. Lapouri wreck Discovered 1977. Archaeologist Harry Alopeaus who participated in the excavation and is also responsible for the reconstruction which was carried out here at Foteviks museum, in the south of Sweden. The boat 12,5 m long, weighs 800 kg has a simple construction. Its form is unusual with a very sharp stern section, board planks 18 mm thick and a delicate frame, board planka are exceptionally wide, 5th board measures 53 cm midship. Sciencetificly this a very interesting experiment. Harry has chosen to reconstruct as expertly as the material could be interpreted. Reconstruction in full scale according to drawings and model are estimated to be ready during the summer 98 when the ship sails under Foteviks flag with Fredrik Koivusala as captain. Foteviken Erik Emune After the discovery of Foteviken Erik Emune was christined during the museums Viking Week -97, 863 years since the battle at Foteviken 1134. Erik Emune won over the Danish King Nils. Reconstruction and model done by Björn M Jakobsen and Jan Mellring. Jan built the replic, the meaning was to build a sister ship though not a copy of the Fotevik, reasons being we couldn`t study all the details as we only had the drawings from the time of the discovery as a lead. This is a smaller stabily built ship 10,6 m long with a low mast and wide sail, but can even be rowed with 12 oarsmen. With few exceptions most of the construction of the rig and sail were chosen examples of the following Norwegian North land boats which sailed around the Northern Atlantic coast from to year 1900. Experiments with this type of sail and rig construction can give other interesting facts about the ships character. 13 Date: Sat May 29, 1999 2:33am Subject: sweden I am in Sweden 22 Date: Sun May 30, 1999 8:49pm Subject: test 5 or 6 Boy the fight is hard this morning Pete 23 Date: Mon May 31, 1999 4:51pm Subject: flowers The lilacs are in bloom. Yesterday Par put on his wetsuit and looked around under the boat. What he found is that one of the 12 large bolts holding the keel together was bent back and to the side. Causing a splinter of keel to stick out two fingers wide and two hands long. My assessment: sort of points out two basic problems. The ship needs a dept sounder. The ship needs a sacrificial timber attached to the keel to protect the 12 bolts. Sort of gets back to a more basic problem. The Vikings built their boats keels out of one piece of timber, thus they had no need for these bolts. Any attack that well planned has got to have some enemy set up to take the fall for it. Sure enough the person set up to take the fall is "Osama bin Laden". Not that I think he is a sweetheart, he was just the person set up to take the blame. Ok then who did mastermind this attack? Someone who hates both the U.S. government and Osama bin Laden. Not too hard to find the group responsible once you realize that: 1. Afghanistan is the major producer of heroin in the world. 2. The U.S. government has been putting a lot of pressure on the south american cocaine cartels. The cocaine cartels dreamed up a perfect way to get the US government off their case and do damage to the competition at the same time. It is 1930 prohibition and Chicago all over again. Gang wars fought on the world stage. Thus the net effect of the 9/11 attack is that the cocaine cartels make more money and take the heat off themselves. While the heroin cartels get pounded on by the US military. Pure evil genius as near as I can tell. And my guess is that the cocaine cartel's evil genius is alive and well and chuckling in his penthouse in Miami. The Ensemble presents the world premiere of in between for the month of September (in between summer and fall, they might add...) and dives into the world of ghosts and the supernatural to investigate the unknown journey the soul takes after death. Then in October, the company will embark on its second European tour, having been invited back to the Konfrontations Internat'l Theatre Festival in Poland, and also including dates in Budapest, and Prague in October of 2001. in between is the physical and poetic weaving of stories of the mystical and supernatural, including dream investigation, tales of visitations, parallel universes, ghost stories from different cultures, and the poetics of Dante, Yeats, and the company itself. in between... beginning with the notion of death as a reality of life, and stories of life after death as a reflection of the kind of hope and yearning to experience which is infused into every soul... a yearning to live life in any form possible...in any dimension possible.... in between is a theatrical poem created in exploration of the enduring determination of the spirit TO BE... throughout the sufferings and confusions of life, and the possible trials of existence beyond all of this... The REVOLUTIONS INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL is designed to provide Albuquerque with exposure to, and relationships with, the most revolutionary theatre companies touring the world today, new forms and processes of creation, highly imaginative cultural art that otherwise might never reach our state -- and to expose New Mexico students to the unlimited possibilities for their futures in art and performance. By creating the opportunity for artists and students in New Mexico to learn and exchange culturally with the broad world of live performance beyond mainstream Broadway touring productions, The Riverside Ensemble also strives to expose to the world the vast pool of talent, artistic creation, and inspiration of New Mexico. The Ensemble is committed to expanding the role of Albuquerque and New Mexico in world theatre by continuing to create, tour, and host professional quality innovative performance, and thus expanding the state's cultural and artistic exchange possibilities for the future. -------- 154 Date: Sun Nov 25, 2001 10:17am Subject: O cut his hair Stephen and I had a fun time at my sister Clo's house for Thanksgiving.
